Born in 1948 in south east London. William Mumford first rose to prominence in the 1990s when he painted near - exact versions of the works of Lowry, Vincen Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso among others and passed them off as originals. He was eventually jailed for two years after putting more than £6 million in fake works through some of the art world’s best known auction houses. He was branded as the ‘most prolific art fraudster of modern times’ by the presenter of BBC programme Fake Britain. This reformer art forger is an incredibly talented artist whose paintings have now become masterpieces in their own right and are in lots of private collections.
