Joshua Tobey is a highly acclaimed bronze wildlife artist who lives in Loveland, Colorado. After graduating in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in fine art, he returned home to apprentice his father Gene Toby (renowned western sculptor) in his studio and quickly began producing his own body of work. At 35 he was well established in the western art world, creating bronze sculptures of wildlife featuring a contemporary patina, which he has become renowned for. Sculpture to him is first and foremost about shape and form. All shapes in nature are beautiful so when you look at his work he wants you to be inspired to explore each form by touching the smooth surface and curved lines of the bronze. While bronze is often translated into static objects, Joshua wants his work to express more than a single form. After he sculpts a piece he steps back to see a spirit or intelligence existing within the work, one that his collectors can relate to as an emotion we feel as human beings, from playful curiosity to quiet contemplation. The greatest award for Joshua is witnessing the response the collector has to his sculptures. Joshua has received significant recognition for his artwork in the western world from national sculptor society awards to museum awards, but his most honoured achievement is being recognised as the featured artist at the 2014 Fall Arts Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he was the first sculptor to ever receive this award.
