The Brogue Artist grew up in Taunton, Somerset. With an interest in art from an early age from his mother who painted, he gained an O level at secondary school and then secured a placement at Somerset College of Arts and Technology doing a two year BTEC art and design course in the late 80’s. This led to a sponsorship from a Bristol based design company to fund his studies at Bristol University, studying a BA (Hons) in product and graphic design. He was unable to complete his degree, however, as his sponsor sadly went out of business. For many years his passion has been squashed to wishful thoughts until, more than 30 years later, lockdown came in 2020. He spent countless hours sharpening pencils, doodling and drawing with birds and scenes from nature a particular favourite subject to observe. His style of art has evolved since then with change coming from trying techniques with new subject matter and materials that excite him. Aerosol, stencil and collage, with occasional use of epoxy resin are used to create art that hopefully triggers memories and emotions for the viewer alongside more contemporary cultural themes. He hopes what you see puts a smile on your face and if you’re a fellow emerging artist, he hopes he can inspire you as well.
